Susan Clearman takes great pleasure in creating and performing music both old
and new, vintage and original, familiar and fresh, classic and improvised, domestic and international,
in the box and out of the box! As performer or as composer, she thrives on sharing the singular
experience of LIVE music with her audiences.
Between and beyond Atlanta, Georgia and Highlands, North Carolina, Ms. Clearman
tailors her solo or band performances to the occasion. She’s a great admirer of
cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and like him, brings curiosity, warmth, and classical sensibilities to explore and
connect diverse cultures and musics. Klezmer, Celtic, Ragtime, and Tango are just the beginning!
For each musical genre, she strives for authenticity and integrity of style. Whether playing for weddings
or funerals, recitals or musical theater, folk fests, convention engagements, or other special events, she
draws from her varied repertoire and experience to present the perfect musical complement on piano,
accordion or organ.
Susan’s compositions reflect echoes of Gershwin and Prokofieff, Sibelius and international
trad music. Responses to her works include: “delightful, modern and creative,” “expressive,”
“fun to play,” and “perfect, Maestra!” She has been commissioned to write for events such
as the dedication of a new pipe organ, an ordination, and a community choir Christmas concert. Her evocative works
transport listeners’ imaginations to exotic locales, or nostalgia, enchantment, whimsy, or awe.
